Kelly Hillesland

Kyra is one of only two students on the Challenge Success team who have accomplished multiple projects on their own time. Kyra has proved herself to be a dependable and hardworking teammate; she meets deadlines and acts on constructive feedback graciously. For example, Kyra completed an emotional “I Wish Campaign” video where parents and students shared what they wished each other knew about school. Kyra and her teammate have also developed a video to share how students were volunteering during the initial COVID shutdowns in our city and a multimedia campaign with tips for students to protect their mental health as they attend school online during the pandemic.

Kyra represents the best of young people today. She is civil-minded, community-minded and peer-minded.  In NCL, Kyra never shied away from helping where needed. She stepped up and she stepped out of her comfort zone to make a difference in the lives of other people. She was reliable, dependable and personable. 

This is who Kyra is.  She is an influencer– but not the kind who shares her outfits or talks about shoes or belts. She influences others by being authentic, genuine and real.  She influences others in the way that she helps people and the way she carries herself.  She influences others by caring deeply about people– especially the under-represented – and she influences her peers by not being afraid to do hard or uncomfortable things.
